serendipitous notes

Denis Goulet published The Cruel Choice: A New Concept in the Theory of Development in 1971. Susan Cure (why do I want to call her Mary? weird) is interested in international economics but teaches biology (publishing such arcane papers as "Two new loci for autosomal recessive ichthyosis on chromosomes: 3p21 and 19p12-q12 and evidence for further genetic heterogeneity." Am. J. Hum. Genet. 2000 Mar;66(3):904-13.) Cure's husband had known Goulet as a colleague; the two Cure daughters are working in international development and comparative econ respectively, with a son-in-law at the IMF. I am the happiest woman ever to share a three-hour flight and a half-hour cab fare.

Okay, so for almost fifty years Denis has been a raving centrist. Still:
"Industrialized countries need to revise their policies vis-a-vis social revolutions in other lands, perhaps even in their own. The United States has been singularly deficient in its attitude toward radical change elsewhere. Its chief official aim has been to maintain intact global interests incompatible with indigenous reform and development efforts in the Third World. Conceptual rigidity at home, allied to a Manichaean view of social systems in conflict, has reinforced the good conscience of Americans and confirmed their desire to "domesticate" the world's development efforts."

Sounds familiar. Where have three decades of world banking steered us? Good discussion of econonomic and social development, their meanings, evolution, and spheres of influence - in the appendices. Health conditions and net export/GNP each important in evaluation and normative pedagogies, yes!

So help me, with this year comes micro, int'l-econ, anthro/social... and editing. Balance. It's almost Saving the World with Rock & Roll, but with symbol translation and rendering the midsized industry smaller, more local, and oh cash flow.

Shoulda been a lyricist for some post-prog mic rigger. Two billion dollars, y'all.
Sarah Fox found. Bye, kiddo.

Shared taxi from station to parking garage with girls from Stamford for better odds better chances not if but when, so tired of this. so tired.
