I've been angry at my parents for many, many things... but television restrictions? Hardly an issue in my house, as we didn't really watch TV. Maybe that's what's been wrong all this time. Revelation!

"Setting strict TV rules about what children can and cannot watch at home may actually encourage them to watch the forbidden programs elsewhere, according to new research. And experts say this type of approach may also wind up damaging parents' relationships with their children.
...
Researchers found making negative statements about objectionable programming was often perceived as lecturing by older children, and this type of parental mediation is best reserved for younger children.
...
They say more study is needed to figure out how parents can limit their child's exposure to harmful media content without compromising the quality of their relationship with their children."
